All players and players parents in 4th grade need to note the following decision which has been taken by the Executive and the selectors in the best interest of the extraordinary numbers of players that have joined City United this season. We are grateful you chose to trust us to guide your first steps in senior cricket and we hope you will continue to be part of our club, now and into the future. However, your sheer numbers have created a situation where we have too many players for too few positions. In the first two rounds, we have bracketed (picked one player one week and another to replace him the following week) almost the whole team and whilst this has given everyone some cricket, it is far from a satisfactory situation in the context of an entire season. Therefore:

  • following the two day game 7th & 14th November, team leaders Grant Scarborough and Paul Lawrence will sit with Chairman of Selectors Simon Hood and possibly the Club Secretary, Peter Langston and select a 14 player squad for the remainder of the season;
  • players not chosen in that squad will have their fees refunded, in line with club policy as players who play two or less games in a season do not pay fees;
  • players not chosen in that squad will still be considered club members and will be placed in a group known as the "pool players". In the event of player unavailability, they may be asked to fill holes in the 4th grade squad, sporadically during the season. At that time, players are liable for a $50 fee, plus $10 per game played. Any questions or enquiries on the financial side of this decision should be directed to Claude Orenstein;
  • players not chosen in the squad are still welcome to train with the club, will be welcome spectators at games and we would certainly hope that they would participate in club functions.

This has been a difficult situation to solve and one unprecedented in Club history. Ask around town, you'll find no club expects to start the season with too many players! To a large degree, it's a case of your time will come and when it does, we hope it will be in a City cap.

Any players who might already be having doubts and would like to assist this process by volunteering to step asside, should speak with Grant Scarborough. Grant will be happy to field any of your questions and Lango, of course, would be happy to take your calls or speak with you in person.
